Bajo condiciones favorables de cautiverio y semicautiverio se estudiaron las tasas de crecimiento en un total de 90 animales desde una talla de 90 a 425 mm LHC en machos y 101 a 381 mm LHC en hembras. Los coeficientes de correlación de Pearson para ambos sexos resultaron negativamente altos, pudiendo así determinar la ecuación lineal que explica teóricamente la tasa de crecimiento en relación con las longitudes hocicocloaca. El modelo de Von Bertalanffy se ajusta al crecimiento diferencial entre ambos sexos. El tamaño asintótico para machos es de 420 mm y para hembras de 390. Las hembras podrían llegar a incorporarse al plantel de reproducción luego de su tercera hibernación. Abstract Under suitable semi-captive and captive conditions 90 tegus ranging from 90 to 425 m m SV L in males and 101 to 381 mm SVL in females were studied to know growth rates at different ages. Growth rates and snout-vent lengths were highly negatively correlated in both sexes, and the equations best representing growth rates and length relationships were determined. Von Bertalanffy"s model adjusts to the differential growth between sexes and the asyntotic size for males is 420 mm SVL and 390 mm SVL for females. Females are ready to mate after their third period of hibernation according to the model"s predictions.(1)

Internal or cloacal temperatures (CT) in tegu offspring were studied in an environmental chamber and the were higher than ground temperatures (GT) when these were low, except for a GT of 26.5ºC for which CT was similar. The increase in GTs means an increase in CTs up to 37.21ºC for which the difference between CT and GT were the greatest. The increase of GT above 31.5ºC was related with a decrease in CT: Inmatures CT behaved in a similar way. At 40ºC in GT, animals could not regulate their CT and died. Data depicted here show a certain degree of endotermy. Moulting was more frequent in older juveniles than in younger with a greater range of values for the last ones. Tegu moults were incomplete and they feed though moulting.(1)
